Abstract

There are important discussions on improving the quality of education. One of the variables affecting the quality of education is teacher salaries. Teacher salaries and quality of education are the focus of this study. As a result of the survey and interviews, it was found that teachers were generally dissatisfied with their salaries, but they believed that salaries had a significant impact on motivation and quality of education. Although teachers stated that working conditions were difficult and that they would not recommend the profession to others, they thought that their students were successful. This shows that teachers are motivated by factors other than salary. The results of the study reveal that by taking measures such as improving teacher salaries, improving working conditions and increasing professional development opportunities, teachers' motivation can be increased and the overall performance of the education system can be improved. It is recommended that qualitative research and long-term longitudinal studies be conducted to determine the factors that increase teachers' intrinsic motivation. In this way, the complex relationship between teacher salaries, educational quality and student achievement can be better understood and educational policies can be made more effective.
